Candy Cane Lane Holiday Light Festival

Normanview Residents Group Inc., the registered non-profit community association for Normanview, is proud to host the Candy Cane Lane Holiday Light Festival, in its 4th year. Over 170 Resident Homes (Tour Map on Website) in Normanview displaying their support for the Festival with Christmas and Holiday Light displays, attracted 14,266 walking visitors during the 25 days the event was open in 2015. 43 Volunteers from Regina, as well as those from Lumsden and Saskatoon, contributed 1102 hours for organizational and operational duties. High School students mostly from Riffel and O’Neill High Schools worked with other Regina residents aged 14 to 60+ as Elves to service the donation site. 13,225 pounds of non-perishable food items was collected and sorted on site, received by the Regina & District Food Bank. The goal for this campaign was 5 tons, up from the 6972 pounds collected in 2014. NRGI has implemented a new Community Grant Program, which will allow local charities to apply as a designated beneficiary of the Festival in future years. In response to resident & visitor suggestions, this will allow the organization to direct funds from the event to additional charities that serve Normanview and Regina residents. The collection, sorting and storage of food items has become onerous to the operational capacity of the event. While viewing of the multitude of decorated homes throughout the neighbourhood will remain free to the public, entrance to the main site will require payment of an admission fee, as simple as 1…2…3! $1/Children under 14, $2/Youth 14-17 & Adults 60+, $3/Adults 18-59. Those visitors additionally wishing to donate food items will be directed to the drop off location at Tom’s Independent Grocer. Hot Chocolate and Cookies are available for purchase at the main site. Great thanks is extended to all resident home participants and volunteers. We congratulate the Award Winners for Best Decorated Homes in 5 categories, selected from an impressive and competitive list of finalists. NRG recognizes that the festival success is achieved through the generous support from many in the community. We wish to thank our partners, sponsors and contributors listed on our website.
