RROC to Market Tourism Under the Name Tourism Regina
April 4, 2013 – Regina Regional Opportunities Commission (RROC), the agency responsible for advancing economic development and tourism in the Regina region, will market tourism under the name Tourism Regina for the purpose of making tourism more visible and accessible to key markets. Tourism Regina is the official destination marketing organization for Regina. “We know that Regina is a great destination for tourists, and that tourism is a huge contributor to our economy,” said Mayor Michael Fougere. “It is important that the new Tourism Regina brand and organization brings our various tourism partners together under one umbrella so that we can drive more tourism to our city.”
Tourism Regina will be positioned with a new identity including a completely redesigned website – designed to support visitors and tourism businesses accessing information on Regina. This identity was unveiled on April 4, 2013 at Kramer IMAX Theatre at the Saskatchewan Science Centre in Regina. “Regina’s tourism opportunities continue to grow, in concert with our economy.” says RROC President and CEO, Larry Hiles. “Feedback from stakeholders and our own experience in external markets verify that a specific tourism identity is a necessary component in marketing tourism in Regina.” Leveraging this new identity, Tourism Regina will drive increased tourism business to the city by actively marketing and selling Regina’s tourism product. Tourism Regina promotes Regina and its unique experiences to visitors, travel trade, travel media, and other tourism stakeholders and brings special events to Regina.
“The separate identity is combined with an experienced tourism team, which will be promoting Regina at numerous venues throughout North America and beyond,” outlined Wanda Posehn, VP, Tourism. “Our engagement with stakeholders is foremost in our activities and we are excited to be growing tourism for Regina as its official destination marketing organization.”
The Regina Hotel Association (RHA) is pleased to support the launch of Tourism Regina with funding of $200,000 from its members’ Destination Marketing Fund. “This funding demonstrates our confidence in Tourism Regina to enhance our city’s destination marketing,” said Tracy Fahlman, CEO of the RHA. “Furthermore, this partnership advances our common goal for increased returns for our city and industry.”
