New Pro Rodeo rides into Agribition
It’s a year for exciting change at Canadian Western Agribition (CWA).
Returning and new visitors will have a ton of options when it comes to exploring this year’s event with the Agribition Pro Rodeo in town!
“Agribition 2016 is going to up the ante in terms of excitement,” says Chris Lane, CWA’s new CEO. “A new Pro Rodeo format is going to keep people on the edge of their seats the entire night and have fans really engaged in the show. It’s definitely going to be the hottest ticket in town.”
Four nights of rodeo begins on Wednesday, which is a free night, courtesy of the Mosaic Company. Sixteen top athletes from the Canadian Professional Rodeo Association (CPRA) will compete for the $100,000 prize. Grab tickets while you can, as they are going to go fast!
However, you’ll be going even faster IF you decide to run with the bulls. Get in the action this year as you take part in “Running with the Bulls.” Contestants will have a chance to outrun real rodeo bulls in the Brandt Centre arena. The winners will get a cash prize and a champion rodeo buckle.
If you’re looking for something a little more laid back, the trade show is bigger and better than ever with more shopping to find unique gifts. Keep the fun going with one more party at The Swamp, which features a cabaret Saturday night. And don’t miss out on the live music all week at the Bud Light Loading Chute.
Tip from the locals: Leave your parking concerns behind and park your car at one of the Agribition Express pickup locations. Travel each way on the shuttle for only $3 and receive free gate admission.

Guest Feature: BreakOut West
By: BreakOut West
For anyone who hasn’t attended BreakOut West, we’d like to break it all out for you. BreakOut West is western Canada’s annual music conference and festival surrounding the Western Canadian Music Awards, moving cities each year across the western provinces and the northern territories. 2016 belongs to the Queen City of Regina, who last saw the event come blazing through in 2012. The auspicious beginnings of BreakOut West, under a previous name, also debuted in Regina in 2003. From the middle of the prairies, BreakOut West welcomes and hosts over 60 performing artists, bands and nominees from across western Canada, and hundreds of industry delegates from across the globe. The basic way it works: the fun stuff is for everyone, and the business is for the benefit of our homegrown artists.
Starting with the fun stuff, BreakOut West kicks off it’s weekend of public events with the Western Canadian Music Awards Show on October 13, 2016 in The Show Room at Casino Regina. Tickets are available through www.breakoutwest.ca (via TicketBreak/Casino Regina) for an amazing night of music and awards. This year’s event features Hall of Fame inductee Colin James, who was born in Regina, with hosting and performance by Alberta’s rising country star, Brett Kissel. Also performing are nominees David Morin, Diyet, Justin Lacroix Band, Lexi Strate, Michael Bernard Fitzgerald, Rosie & The Riveters, and William Prince. During the concert several Western Canadian Music Awards will be handed out, but if you miss the star-studded awards show, there are more awards to be handed out throughout the weekend of music!
On Friday and Saturday of the BreakOut West weekend, October 14 and 15, the Festival unfolds in 11 different venues in Regina with over 60 bands and artists, including The Dead South, Belle Plaine, Poor Nameless Boy, Rah Rah, Hot Panda, 36?, Blake Berglund, Jesse Roper, Megan Nash and many, many more. There’s something for everyone with showcases featuring a wide range of rock, pop, country and roots, as well as blues, metal, jazz, children’s, Francophone, classical, world music and more. Plus, several of the showcases will include the winner announcement and award presentation for the genre-based categories. All of the festival artists, both performing and nominated, reside in western Canada and represent an amazing breadth of talent. The best part of all of this is that you can hear what BreakOut West has to offer for the price of one $20 wristband. Wristbands give you access to all showcase venues (pending capacity), so you can jump from show to show enjoying your personalized selection of bands, or settle in for a night at your favourite venue and make some new musical discoveries. Wristbands are available for advance purchase at X-Ray Records, Rebellion Brewing, and Coda Clothing in Regina, and will be for sale at all BreakOut West venues during the festival.
Schedules and Artist/Band Line-up for the festival are updated at www.breakoutwest.ca and are available on the BreakOut West App, free and downloadable for Apple iOS and Android.
Last but not least is the business side of BreakOut West. It’s not all just fun and games, as for the many artists that come to BreakOut West, playing music is already a career or a burgeoning career. The BreakOut West Conference brings together hundreds of industry members, from our own back yard and across the country, to as far away as Australia, Europe, the UK, and the United States. Through a series of educational panels, keynotes, the Western Canadian Music Industry Awards Brunch, networking events and one-on-one meetings, attendees connect with new potential in the form of managers, agents, label representatives, publishers, talent buyers, promoters, festival directors, music supervisors and more. For those willing to grab hold, BreakOut West presents an imagination’s worth of knowledge and opportunities for the hard working artist. Each year, many bands and artists come away from BreakOut West with an advancement in their work, be it signing with a label, booking a festival, or finding a publishing deal. If you’re interested in attending the BreakOut West Conference, you can purchase a registration through www.breakoutwest.ca, and package your purchase to include tickets to the Western Canadian Music Awards Show and a wristband for the Festival. All in all, BreakOut West is western Canada’s premiere music event, and it’s going to rock Regina this October.
