Hidden Gems

Mar 16, 2023/Blog, Eat & Drink

Regina is known to have great patios, pubs, taverns and bars, but with such a rich multi-cultural community, we also have some amazing restaurants you can visit throughout the year that will awaken your senses as soon as you walk through the door. You can pass by amazing small business without realizing they are there. Here are a few places you may wondered about that are certified gems.

Hidden Gems

  • 1. 33 1/3 Coffee Roasters - 13th ave
There is no better cup of joe in this city than 33 & 1/3. Eric and his team deliver ethically sourced beans from around the world. Hit up a Cap in the morning or a delicious cortado for that afternoon pick me up.

  • 2. El Tropezon
For that south of two boarders experience. You won’t find a more authentic taco than El Tropezon. Roberto and Valeria are proud to serve up street food from their northern Mexican roots. Find them on their food truck, at Rebellion Brewing Co., or their products in many retailers across the city.

  • 3. Italian Star Deli
You couldn’t make a food list and not mention Italian Star Deli. This institution, was one of the 1st places I visited when I moved to Regina and the Giambatista’s continue the Italian tradition 50 years later. Think about picking up the spicy sandwich and a lemonatta.

  • 4. Leopold’s Tavern Regina - "OG"
Local spot turned chain, you can’t beat the OG experience at Leo’s. The consistency in food and service can’t be beat. These folks really do remember your name and you probably remember theirs. Get there early for a seat at the bar, and like me, you might stay all night.

  • 5. Takeaway Gourmet
I can’t walk in this place and not spend money. With a well curated selection of meats, condiments, breads and of course Cheese, you feel that maybe you’ve travelled outside of Regina for a moment. That’s a great relief especially when it’s -50 outside. Chat with owner (and politician) Aleana, at the counter. I recommend the chateau burgoin.

  • 6. Saltine Baking Company
I’m gluten free- so I always have to live vicariously through others when they eat Bread and Pastries. There is no better sound of joy than hearing someone eat a croissant from Saltine Baking Co. Ashley is a master of her craft, with the selection ever changing. but I recommend getting there early for the good stuff or you will definitely miss out.

  • 7. Avenue Restaurant and Bar
Dive into a Last Word, Corpse Reviver #2 or a Caliente at the Bar at Avenue. Not sure what you feel like drinking? Chat with Chris Cho and his team for the right selection. Peckish after your wind down? I recommend the pork belly press, but really all their food is great!

  • 8. Homestead Bar À Vin
If you are into Wine, like I am, Homestead Bar a Vin is your must stop. With three trained sommeliers on the team (Josh, GiGi and Leah), there is no place better to get lost in the city than here. Their French inspired family style cuisine pairs beautifully with the nightly wine list, and is ever changing so there is always a new experience to have.

In the spirit of reconciliation

We would like to acknowledge that the land on which we gather is Treaty 4 territory and the traditional territory of the Anihšinābēk, Nêhiyawak, Dakota, Lakota, and Nakota peoples, and the original home of the Métis/Michif Nation. We recognize that both Indigenous and Métis people are the spiritual and cultural keepers of their traditional lands and still to this day, continue to practice their values, languages, beliefs and knowledge.
