National Day for Truth and Reconciliation & Orange Shirt Day

Lieutenant Governor Russ Mirasty to host a public event on Orange Shirt Day & National Day for Truth and Reconciliation Day at Government House.

 

The event will include a welcome by Lieutenant Governor Mirasty, and a blessing by Elder John Stonechild, followed by a musical performance by Brad Bellegarde.

  • Brad is a proud Nakota/Cree member of the Little Black Bear First Nation and grew up in Regina, spending much of his summers on Carry the Kettle Nakoda Nation.
  • Brad will mix hip hop music with storytelling focused on his First Nations roots
  • Brad has a talent for connecting with youth as he has created his own curriculum on Indigenous issues that he has presented in a variety of classrooms
  • During the Royal Visit celebrating Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee in 2012, Brad performed for the former Prince of Wales, now King Charles III, and his Queen Consort at First Nations University of Canada in Regina.
  • Brad has been a featured artist at Aboriginal Music Week in Winnipeg, APTN’s Aboriginal Day Live and Vancouver’s Olympic Games celebrations.

The public is welcome, and chairs will be available on the grounds by the Residential School Memorial. Luther High School students (over 400) will attend.

 

In case of rain, the concert will move inside Luther College High School auditorium, just across the lawns at Dewdney Avenue and 1500 Royal Street.
