THE SECRET BEACH
The Secret Beach is the moniker used by Winnipeg, Manitoba born songwriter, Micah Erenberg, who’s refreshingly plainspoken candor has become a dominant through-line in the singer/songwriters ever-expanding catalog. Whether releasing records under his own name, or lending his talents as a producer, Erenberg exists in a constant whirlpool of creation. This latest offering, Songs From The Secret Beach, finds beauty in the mundanity of daily life. Produced by Erenberg, and mixed by revered producer/engineer Rob Schnapf (Kurt Vile, Beck, Cass McCombs), this collection is at once an exercise in restraint, as well as an arrestingly lush exploration of sonic possibility.
The wisdom of this record exists between the cracks. There is a nuance that could easily be overlooked. However, Songs From The Secret Beach takes a courageous and uninhibited stab at honesty, and it may be the best kept secret you discover this year.
GOOD INFORMATION
Edmonton-based ensemble, Good Information, lays down an indisputably hip-hop oriented sound while maintaining the traditional elements of small-combo jazz. Their unique brand of “jazz with a beat-aesthetic” shines through precise interplay and improvisation woven over minimalist structures. Through energetic residency shows over the past 5 years, the group has fostered a community that consistently supports their work – reimagining the music of popular hip-hop artists such as: Kendrick Lamar, Frank Ocean, A Tribe Called Quest, Tyler The Creator and Kanye West. Good Information’s long-awaited debut album will be released in summer 2023, with lead singles (featuring Odario of CBC Radio Music’s Afterdark) dropping in the spring.
HERMITESS
Hermitess is the project of a reclusive witch, weaving layered orchestral textures, harmonic voices, electric harp and pedal driven magic, to conjure a fleeting fever dream.
