Regina Jane’s Walks 2023
Join our free, volunteer-led “walking conversations.” We’ll observe, reflect, share, question and re-imagine the places in which we live, work and play. Or come by the Central Library to learn about Jane Jacobs, the inspiration for Jane’s Walks, and how you can lead a walk yourself in our second weekend of walks coming up in June!

Friday, May 5th
- 7:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.
- Spring Floods and What Regina Does to Protect Us
- It took 13 years of work by residents and the City of Regina to fix and rejuvenate the Riverside Dyke. See the dyke in all its splendour, as what is now an example of bio-engineering, flood control and public engagement. This year is the 20th anniversary of the work. We may also see interesting wildlife. Meet at the North end of the Cameron Street Bridge.
Saturday, May 6th
- 9:00 a.m. - 10:30 a.m.
- Can You Dig It: the Story of Wascana Lake
- The walk will describe some of the history of Wascana Lake including the first dig, the second dig and some of the features of the park surrounding the lake. We may also see interesting wildlife. Meet at the Queen Elizabeth II Statue in front of the Legislative Buildings.
- 1:00 p.m. - 2:35 p.m.
- Citizen Jane: Battle for the City
- Writer and urban activist Jane Jacobs fights to save historic New York City during the ruthless redevelopment era of urban planner Robert Moses in the 1960s. Documentary film screening, RPL Film Theatre.
- 3:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
- Share the City You Know
- Meet your Jane's Walk organizer for Regina, Laura Stewart, and connect with others interested in taking or leading walking tours on a second weekend of walks, to be held in early June, once the cityscape greens up. Get some practical tips for leading a successful walk, and exchange ideas for topics. Meet in the Community Commons, Central Library.
Sunday, May 7th
- 9:00 a.m. - 10:30 a.m.
- The Upper Lake and Far Away Place
- The walk will describe some of the historical use of Wascana Lake including the power station, market gardens and the lands that we now call Wascana Park and the Migratory Bird Sanctuary. We may also see interesting wildlife. Meet at the Saskatchewan Science Centre Parking Lot.
