The Philippine Madrigal Singers in Regina

The Philippine Madrigal Singers is a choral group that was founded in 1963 by National Artist for Music Professor Andrea O. Veneracion. The group has been recognized by UNESCO as Artists for Peace for promoting cultural diversity, intercultural dialogue, and a culture of peace using their fame and influence. They have won all the top prizes in most of the world’s choral competitions and are one of the most awarded choral groups in the world. They have the distinction of being the first choir to win the prestigious European Grand Prix for Choral Singing twice (in 1997 and 2007) and the first Asian choir to be accorded the Brand Laureate Premiere Award by the Asia Pacific Brands Foundation in 2012. The ensemble, led by Choirmaster Mark Anthony Carpio, performs a wide range of music styles and forms, including Renaissance, Classical, Filipino and international folksongs, contemporary and avant-garde music, Opera, and even popular music. The group’s specialization and focus on the madrigal idiom inspired them to create a unique setup where they sing while seated in a semicircle without a conductor..
