Bi-Giwen: Coming Home--Truth Telling from the Sixties Scoop

September 15, 2021 - 9:30 am – 7:00 pm

Regina Public Library

Join us for a one-day exhibit about the impact of the Sixties Scoop on Indigenous communities, presented by the Sixties Scoop Indigenous Society of Alberta.

Between the 1950s and the 1990s, thousands of Indigenous children were apprehended from their homes by government child intervention services and placed in non-indigenous foster homes. These children were disconnected from their families, communities, culture and language and some suffered abuse, neglect, and mistreatment. Many refer to the Sixties Scoop as a continuation of the residential school system; Indigenous children are still disproportionately represented in the Child Welfare system. Twelve of these survivors share their personal stories in this exhibition.

This is an in-person exhibit. Please do not attend if you are feeling unwell. Masks are encouraged, but not required.
