2018 Congress of the Humanities and Social Sciences

Conferences, Galas, and Expos

May 26, 2018 – June 1, 2018

University of Regina / 3737 Wascana Parkway

Congress brings together academics, researchers, policy-makers, and practitioners to share findings, refine ideas, and build partnerships that will help shape the Canada of tomorrow.

Unrivaled in scope and impact, the annual Congress of the Humanities and Social Sciences is the convergence of over 70 scholarly associations, each holding their annual conference under one umbrella. The theme for this year’s Congress is “Gathering diversities | mâmawinitotân nanâtohk-ayisiyiniwa”.

  • A unique event that connects scholars, students, publishers, and you, the public, to discuss big ideas that have the power to transform Canada’s future.
  • The largest multidisciplinary academic gathering in Canada — and one of the largest in the world – with up to 7,000 participants and 4,000 research papers presented.
  • A seven-day event that has taken place in cities across Canada for the better part of a century – 87 years and counting!
  • An education and engagement platform to work towards reconciliation and to support the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s recommendations that relate to higher education.
  • A creative place where you meet like-minded people, scholars, and professionals with different perspectives across humanities and social sciences.

Who Can Attend?

Congress programming is open to attendees, academics and non-academic audiences. You are welcome to attend any association conference at Congress regardless of membership status, provided that you pay the corresponding member or non-member fee.

There is an open calendar of events that are free for anyone to attend with topics like history, literature, politics, poetry, sociology, media, film and fine arts. View the open calendar of events.

Each scholarly association is responsible for its own conference, call for papers and puts together its own conference program. Find your association’s conference.

The open calendar of events  is free for anyone to attend. Otherwise, the registration fees are broken down into two components – the Congress fee and the Association conference fees.

Congress Fees are mandatory for all attendees.

Regular – $215 | Students, retired or unwaged – $90

Association Conference Fees are mandatory for all attendees participating in association sessions. Association conference fees do not cover the association’s membership fees. For membership inquiries, please contact the association directly. Find your association conference fee.
