We’re a few weeks into the summer break from school and it’s great to see the local parks filled with happy kids. Whether you’re coming to Regina for a family vacation or enjoying a staycation at home, there are plenty of family-friendly things to do right. I’ve put together a list of 50 ideas for summer family fun – some for young kids and some for the older ones – but we’d love to hear your suggestions in the comments below too!

  1. Playgrounds – There are so many fun parks and playgrounds around the city! You can visit the City of Regina website for a full listing. Our family favourites include Candy Cane Park, Rick Hansen Optimist Playground, McKenna Park and Norseman Park.
  2. Picnic – We have a list of 10 great picnic spots right here on the Tourism Regina blog.
  3. Outdoor Pools – Make a splash at one of Regina’s many outdoor pools.
  4. Indoor Pools – Save this list of indoor waterparks for a rainy day this summer.
  5. Outdoor Spray Pads – Visit the City of Regina for a full listing of outdoor spray pads. My favourites are South Leisure, Kinsmen South and Sandra Schmirler (currently closed for construction).
  6. Lawn Bowling – Visit the Regina Lawn Bowling Club website to see how you can get started!
  7. Basketball – Visit one of the many outdoor basketball courts in Regina.
  8. Golf – Visit the City of Regina for a listing of the golf courses in Regina.
  9. Sherwood Forest Golf & Country Club – Just 15 minutes west of the city, you’ll find a small beach & pool area in the Sherwood Forest Golf & Country Club. The beach area is free to people in the campground and they charge $5/person for the general public (kids 2 years and younger are free).
  10. Tennis – The city has several outdoor tennis courts available to use for free! Check the City of Regina website for a full listing.
  11. Sportsplex – Indoor tennis courts, badminton courts, cycling, 200m oval track plus the Lawson Aquatic Centre and more in the Sportsplex.
  12. Outdoor Fitness Equipment – Outside the South Leisure Centre you’ll find thirteen pieces of outdoor cardio & strength training equipment plus a play area for kids.
  13. Skateboard Parks – The City of Regina has a full listing of the outdoor skateboard parks in the city.
  14. Canada Games Athletic Complex – Located at Douglas Park, this outdoor complex includes a 400m track, long jump & triple jump pits, athletic fields, baseball diamond, tennis courts and more.
  15. Delicious Treats – Visit one of Regina’s best bakeries for a delicious treat like cinnamon buns, cupcakes and cookies.
  16. Ice Cream – It’s a summer tradition in Regina to visit Milky Way or Polar Palace for ice cream.
  17. Regina’s Farmer’s Market – Visit their website for a listing of the dates & times that they are open.
  18. Lunch in Victoria Park – Visit one of the hot dog vendors downtown for lunch in Victoria Park.
  19. Food Trucks – Grab lunch from one of the food trucks in City Square Plaza downtown. You can find more information on the vendors by following them on Twitter.
  20. Wascana Park – Go for a walk around the lake in Wascana Park.
  21. Ferry Boat Tour – Enjoy a leisurely ferry boat tour around Wascana Lake. Call Wascana Centre Authority to book.
  22. Rent a Kayak or Canoe – Located at Wascana Marina, you can rent single and double kayaks, canoes and stand up paddle boards.
  23. Biking – Go for a bike ride to enjoy one of Regina’s many bike trails like the Trans Canada Trail.
  24. Waterfowl Park Display Ponds – This is home to Wascana Centre's injured and captive waterfowl including geese, ducks, pelicans and swans. The public is welcome to visit the birds during the summer months.
  25. Library – Check out the Regina Public Library event schedule and attend one of their free programs.
  26. Special Events – Check out the City of Regina Event Calendar for a listing of special events like the Queen City Ex.
  27. Saskatchewan Science Centre – Visit the Science Centre for lots of indoor fun! They also have the IMAX theatre and an outdoor playground.
  28. Menchies – Visit Menchies to create your own frozen yogurt treat.
  29. Royal Saskatchewan Museum – Visit the museum to check out the exhibits. Check out their calendar of events as well for drop-in programs, shows and more.
  30. Movie Theatre – Visit one of Regina’s movie theatres or check out the Cineplex Family Favourites – Saturday movies at 11am each week for $2.99.
  31. Get Air Trampoline Park – Visit Regina’s indoor trampoline park.
  32. Amazing Adventure – Play on the big indoor play structure in Amazing Adventure.
  33. Chuck E Cheese – Enjoy arcade games and pizza at Chuck E Cheese.
  34. Laser Quest – Enjoy a hide-and-seek and tag game with a high tech twist in Laser Quest.
  35. Cinema Under The Stars – Enjoy a free family-friendly outdoor movie in Victoria Park. Visit the schedule for dates, times and movie listings.
  36. MacKenzie Art Gallery – Create your own art in The MacKenzie Learning Centre.
  37. Conexus Arts Centre – Check the event listings on the Conexus Arts Centre website for a listing of upcoming shows and events.
  38. Rider Game – Watch one of the Rider games live at Mosaic Stadium or visit their Event Schedule for a listing of special Rider events happening at the stadium.
  39. Legislative Building – Take a tour of the Legislative Building. Tours are about 30 minutes in length and free of charge.
  40. Symphony Under The Sky Festival – Check their website for dates and a listing of activities.
  41. Paintball – Google “Paintball Regina” for a listing of paintball fields in and around Regina.
  42. Kart Racing – Experience kart racing just minutes north of Regina at 3 Flags Motorsports Park.
  43. Patio Dining – Enjoy lunch on the patio at one of Regina’s many restaurants.
  44. Bouldering – Test out your skills on the Bouldering Wall (a form of rock climbing) outside at Flux School of Human Movement.
  45. Bowling – Try Phantom “Glow in The Dark” Bowling in Golden Mile Mall.  
  46. Dino Bouncers – Enjoy the indoor inflatable jump park at Dino Bouncers.
  47. Globe Theatre – Enjoy a live show at the Globe Theatre.
  48. Regina Red Socks – Watch a live Regina Red Socks baseball game at Currie Field.
  49. Government House – Visit the Government House and play in the Once Upon A Time room.
  50. Dessart Sweets – Visit Dessart Sweets and go candy shopping!
